| Do you know that Michael Phelps is 5 days younger than me, yet he's managed to be an internationally-renowned athlete with superfluous record in swimming?

| Went to the dentist for the first time today after almost 8 years. Yes, I know. Don't judge. After the dental assistant was done with me, my whole mouth felt really weird, as if someone has sandpaper-ed my teeth. Eugh, I don't like the feeling. The polishing stuff was so stinking sweet that I almost puked.
After the whole cleaning bits was done, I had some pretty interesting conversation with the dentist himself. When he found out that I'm an Oncology nurse, we had a pretty long talk about cancer. (Honestly, I think we talked more about cancer than about me and my teeth). I don't mind as much because I've realized that I'm pretty passionate about oncology, a field that I never thought that I'd be interested in. My dentist shared about three people that he knew really well whose lives were taken away by cancer. All three of them were relatively young when cancer took their lives away.
When I got back to work, I saw patients with my favorite oncologist. I told her about my dentist visit, and she told me about a really sad news from California. Her Urologist friend in CA just dropped dead yesterday (sounds funny, but it's not). This was a man whose talent and knowledge have touched so many lives for decades, and somehow he's managed to stay humble. He never had any health problem, but yesterday he complained about not feeling well, became extremely edematous in almost an instant, and within hours he passed away. WHAT THE HECK!??
Anyway, if there's one life lesson that speaks louder than any other, it's to treasure every moment with your loved ones that God's blessed you with. How do you know you're going to be around 5, 10, 15 years from now? Heck you don't even know whether you'll be around by this time tomorrow. It sounds cliche overtime, but it's so true. Like it is written in James: Now listen, you who say,
"Today or tomorrow we will go to this or that city, spend a year there,
carry on business and make money." Why,
you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You
are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes. Instead, you ought to say, "If it is the Lord's will, we will live and do this or that." James 3:13-15.
Live your life out loud, and love much.

| A conversation with one of my patients who have low platelet count (which means one is so much more prone to bleeding, among other things)
Me: When you brush your teeth this morning, did you notice any blood? Patient: Me? What? No... I don't brush my teeth in the morning. Why? Me: *wth?? hahahahah* Umm, because (long patient education moment which will bore you to tears).
